Privacy

Camping.me.uk sets no cookies, runs no analytics and has no user accounts. This page explains the little data we do handle and why.

The short version

You can browse this entire site without us storing anything about you. We do not track you across pages, we do not build a profile, and we do not sell or share anything with advertisers. There is no cookie banner because there are no cookies to consent to.

Who we are

Camping.me.uk is an independent campsite directory operated from the United Kingdom. For any privacy question, including a request to see or delete data, write to kingsib@gmail.com or use the contact form. We are the data controller for the handful of things described below.

Server logs

Our web server records each request: the page, the time, your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, and the page you arrived from. This is standard web server behaviour and we rely on it to keep the site running and to spot abuse — a legitimate interest under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f). Logs rotate and are discarded; we do not mine them, build profiles from them, or connect them to anything else.

“Campsites near me”

If you use the Near me feature, your browser asks your permission and then hands us a location. We deliberately round it to three decimal places — roughly 100 metres — before it is used, because the coordinates travel in the page address and so appear in the server log described above. We do not want your doorstep in a log file.

The rounded location is used once, to sort campsites by distance. It is never stored, never associated with you, and the permission is your browser's to revoke at any time.

Search

What you type into the search box is sent to our server to run the query and appears in the server log with the rest of the request. It is not stored separately, linked to you, or used for anything else.

The contact form

If you write to us, we receive your name, your email address and your message, by email. We keep that correspondence only as long as it takes to deal with your enquiry and any sensible follow-up, and we use it for nothing else. The form is rate-limited by IP address to stop automated abuse; those counters expire within the hour.

Cookies and similar technology

This site sets no cookies and uses no local storage, no pixels, no fingerprinting and no analytics package of any kind. We cache rendered pages on our own server to keep the site fast, but that cache holds pages, not people.

Links to retailers in our shop and guides are affiliate links. Following one takes you to that retailer's own website, where their privacy policy and their cookies apply, not ours. They may set a cookie to record that you arrived from us so that any commission is credited correctly. We receive aggregate reporting from them — clicks and orders — never your identity or what else you browsed.

Where the campsite data comes from

Listings are derived from OpenStreetMap. If a listing contains a business phone number, email address or website, that information is published in OpenStreetMap under the Open Database Licence and we reproduce it as a business contact detail. If you are a campsite owner and want it changed, the effective route is to correct it in OpenStreetMap itself, which fixes it everywhere rather than only here — but tell us and we will help.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you may ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or erased, object to our processing it, or complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. Given the above, the honest answer to most such requests will be that we hold nothing beyond a server log line and, if you have written to us, your email.
